Proactive in Preserving our Precious Pelicans!

Not to long ago my children were peacefully sitting next to a resting pelican that had made himself very cozy  in some warm sand while the sun was gently setting, a scene fit for a postcard.  But out of know where I was horrified by the site of a woman allowing her dog to chase down and attempt to eat our beautiful Pelican friend.

This happened at Avila Beach.  Thank heaven above my Superman of a husband has the athletic body that he inherited from his father Mike Hull who played for the Washington Redskins.  He got up and within 5 seconds had caught up with that vicious dog and the endangered Pelican.  Allowing the Pelican to fly free.

I then went up to the woman who had moved to the Central Coast from England and asked her why she would allow such an atrocity to happen.  She shrugged it off saying that it was after 6pm and that dogs were allowed on the beach without leashes.  I then again asked her why she let her dog attack the resting Pelican.  She said there are tons of them and we can live with out one!  Which made me very upset because as most of us know, and I continued to inform her, Pelicans are on the endangered list and its not ok to harm them in any way.

So please do your part to preserve the Pelicans.  If you take your dog to the beach please do not allow it to disrupt marine life.  Generations after us will thank you when they too get to whiteness the wonders of them flying over head much like pterodactyls once did in the Jurassic period millions of years ago.  For more information on Pelicans as well as more ways that you can help feel free to visit, the Pelican Network.
